Dorothy Parker was finally laid to rest twenty-one years, seven months, and thirteen days after her death. Her friends were unable to attend because nearly all of them were dead. I've read a lot of Dorothy Parker's work and read a bit about her life, but this is the first time I've heard about the days leading up to and following her death (via Metafilter.) "Some Thoughts on the Real World by One Who Glimpsed It and Fled", Bill Watterson's speech to the 1990 graduating class at Kenyon College (via Metafilter.) The real problem for me is trying to pick which one bit of wisdom I pull from this for my quotefile. Monday, May 22, 2006
