pictureVia Metafilter, Of Mice and Mayhem--a 230-page Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers fanfic graphic novel drawn by the founder of "the king of Morocco's private party band" (and, it looks like, the creator of THE TWISTED DEMENTED ROBOT BEER TUNE.)

Not a bad way to kill an hour or so, and guaranteed safe of any furry content beyond some cross-species flirting.

Hmmm. Watching my counters and referral logs is one thing, but knowing exactly when you're reading? That strikes me as just a hair further down the creepy and obsessive trail than I'm willing to go. (It also helps that I use ICQ and not AIM.) (via Anil)

I note that vegetarians don't get to have their vote and eat it too. (via J-Walk)

"Recently, I decided to sequence my DNA in my spare time. "How hard can it be," I figured."

A blog post with that opening has to be worth reading, right? (via in the boingboing guestbar.)

pictureThe Whole Brain Atlas, an amazing collection of photographs, MRIs, and other images of the brain, along with a Java applet that lets you find specific points (via Metafilter.)

JP passes along the news that a new version of ScummVM is available for to classic LucasArts adventure game fans. Like me! Time to play The Secret of Monkey Island again...

pictureA Gizmodo discussion on what gadgets would be handy to have around during a blackout pointed me towards a device of which I was heretofore blissfully unaware: USB-powered toothbrushes. I think Raggedy Andy and I will be just fine without power, thanks.

From the same thread, a bit of resourcefulness I do admire:

"I took three old 80mm computer fans, hooked them up to a 12 volt drill battery, and had a fan blowing on me all night. I even ran speaker wire through all of the screw holes which hooked them up in a nice three fold fashion."

In a move of dubious wisdom on several fronts, Army psyops is hanging Photoshopped pictures of Saddam Hussein from a Worth1000.com contest around downtown Tikrit (via boingboing.)

The CNN article ably notes the potential cultural landmines this lies out, but it fails to ask whether the copyright holders (to either the manipulated or original photos) were involved in this process. It'll be interesting to see if anyone involved pushes W1K to take its policy off the web to cease and desist the Army.

Via Slashdot, another worm is on the loose--this one a hunter-killer worm designed to download the needed patches from Microsoft to kill the Blaster worm. This isn't the first time that a "white hat worm" has been set on the trail of a destructive virus--though the actions of those who engage in online vigilante justice aren't widely appreciated by either side in the battle.

As requested, here are some Pointless Questions for the Zustblog:

1) For one month you will hear only one song, repeated over and over. What song is it?
2) If you could travel to and spend the rest of your life at any time and place in the past, where would you go?
3) Five people of your choice are thrown into a no-holds-barred bare knuckles cage match. Who, and why?
4) You're forced to know one but get to pick: when you're going to die, or how you're going to die?
5) If you could have any mythological animal for a pet, which would you pick and what would you name it?
