Poking around the Government Surplus Auctions site; I love the collection of miscellaneous jewelery for sale in Texas, the big pile of televisions in North Dakota, and and the incredible 8-channel microphone waiting for a lucky buyer in Pennsylvania. But my favorite: the 1957 fire truck up for grabs in Iowa (currently going for two hundred bucks!) I admit to being disappointed that the "Crashed Test Vehicles" auction category is empty. My old camp buddy Chad has joined the online ranks as the Towlebooth goes fully active. Don't miss the pictures of Chad with Geddy Lee. Well, OD is now officially one year old. I have no gifts to offer, Loyal Reader, except offering you the chance to dig through a year's accumulation of images and pictures. And there's the old OD wallpaper, if'n you want it. (As an interesting side-note, OD's one-year anniversary was also the day it received its 10,000th hit, from someone doing a Google search for an Image to ASCII Converter.) Friday, November 08, 2002
Much as I like them, I don't have much use for Macs these days. However, were I to get one, it would be built into a briefcase. Busy as all get-out, filling all my spare moments with Vice City, I'm still finding time to reread Silverlock. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure, I reccommend it heartily. Though it might be difficult to find a copy, it's worth the trouble. Someday I'd love to play or run a game set in the Commonwealth... Thursday, November 07, 2002
Wow! boingboing has alerted me to the existence of Custom Viewmaster reels!!! I don't know what I'd put on them, but seeing as how I don't have the couple grand the process costs it doesn't matter much, does it? Wednesday, November 06, 2002
When the wagon leads the horse in product design: I give you dnL. It's upside-down! CRAZY! (from PCJM) I will let nothing prevent Ober Dicta from becoming the premiere web destination for fannish blatherings about The Daily Blab by Ron Barrett. After years of searching, the copy I found online last week arrived this morning, and I immediately sat down to read it. ![]() I admit to some trepidation--would the book live up to my memories of childhood enjoyment?--but it was all I remembered, without fail. Though I had forgotten many of the stories, all of them were immediately familiar, like long-lost good friends. Every page put a goofy smile on my face, and more than a bunch made me laugh out loud. J.P. correctly accused me of buying back my childhood, but this is one of the books that helped shape my sense of humor and I'm ecstatic to have it back on my shelves after a long absence. The last thing I want to do is steal the food out of Ron Barrett's mouth; that'd be disgusting, for one thing. But I can't help but share two stories to give you a taste. Enjoy (and click on the thumbnails for larger versions.) ...![]() Tuesday, November 05, 2002
I am often hesitant of Net superlatives, but I have to agree with the MeFi poster who called this the best resume ever. A real-life superhero. Her name: Terrifica. Her mission: " Serve and Protect the Single Girl Living in the City". Idiots. Someday somebody will explain to me the logic behind ditching a well-established brand. And yes, I know it's explained in the article, but it sure seems like trading a working--if not as well as possible--thing for an experiment. At best it's dangerous to a company about which I only have good things to say. At worst: idiots. (Thanks to Angela for the pointer.) Monday, November 04, 2002
I just stayed up way too late watching Danger: DIABOLIK on AMC. I recommend you all do this as soon as possible. Sunday, November 03, 2002
What Googlism knows about me:
(Thanks to Ev for the idea) So you're wandering the web, clicking away, and suddenly you find yourself on a page of Japanese Motocross photos. The only thought you can muster: Wha?-- How? |
