A new LEGO film from Spite Your Face Productions, a one-minute remake of 2001. And for a few laughs, read their FAQ while you're there. Found while looking for the "Sneakers" link in the last post, it's not pretty but it's geeky fun to read: Math in the Movies. The best part of this Windows error message is that it's represented internally by ERROR_TOO_MANY_SECRETS--someone at MS HQ has been watching too much (or just enough) of Sneakers. There was this fake Christmas tree that I didn't have room to keep in my storage unit. So I just, like, left it in the garage. I mean, we're all friends and neighbors around the building. Now, today, it's all gone and stuff. What are we going to do next Arbor Day? And the kids are crushed--they were really looking forward to celebrating some new holiday called Fistomas (I don't know either; must be one of those multicultural holidays they teach them about in school when they should be learning long division.) I'm sure we'll muddle through somehow. Thursday, September 05, 2002
News of interest to the paper gaming industry folks who read this page, as WOTC is likely laying off 100 people over the next few days--including some big and recognizable names. Swung by the whygodwhy Lounge and noticed that there were a couple new songs posted. Perfectly imperfect, and that's what I love about 'em. Check out his cover of the Go-Go's "Vacation" and, for the Buffy fans, "Going Through the Motions". Wednesday, September 04, 2002
It's been a pain to be constantly reaching around the back of my computer to plug in headphones and microphones and such. When I went to buy a case I looked for one with front USB and headphone ports--I found the former in a LianLi case, but nobody seemed to offer the latter. Until I found FrontX. I'm a-gonna be ordering one of these real soon... UPDATE: Correction--order from FrontX completed. I now anxiously await the parts... ![]() Go to the Isthmus's page of Blues Festival pictures, select the Pinetop Perkins show, and go to picture 15 in the sequence:
I know, I know. But I didn't want to be hard on my low-bandwith readers. Go to the Isthmus' larger and clearer version. I'll wait. See the guy in the black shirt and sunglasses in the front row? Go straight up from his sideburns until you see the next full face; it's Scott! And to the left (his right), hidden by the woman in the red hat: it's me! We're in a well-hidden picture on the sub-website of an obscure paper covering a local event! It's like the exact opposite of being famous! Tuesday, September 03, 2002
I have convinced Nero to recognize my Sony CDR! I'm king of the world! (I post this to share my joy and to convey a moral to you, my friend: never ever buy harware until you are certain the neccesary software supports it.) Spurred by China's block of Google, one of the MeFites was kind enough to provide a page where you can see if a particular address is blocked. I'm happy to say that this page isn't. So: hello, China! Watch me make two words even creepier than you might imagine: "young mother". Go on, click it. How bad can it be? It's a Reuters news photo, for crying out loud. Surfing the web, the phrase passed through my head: Mothers Without Pity I have no idea what it means. Stopped on the web page I was on, could only find the word "pity"--apparently the mother association is all mine. I will ponder this*, but in the meantime I wanted to record the phrase. It strikes my fancy. * Possible near neural chains: Mothers Against Drunk Driving; Doctors Without Borders; Television Without Pity. Spent a good chunk of the weekend doing research for a writing project, another good chunk hanging out with friends and eating good food, and the rest playing Super Mario Sunshine. A good, fun game; there are many things about it (especially the terrible camera) that rank it below Jak and Daxter in my book, but still a lot of fun--and the music is great. Until I can buy a soundtrack somewhere, there was one track I had to have. Mario Sunshine - Super Mario Brothers theme (acapella) Apologies for the harsh ending of the track, but it's the version designed to be looped. Hopefully we'll get a better release someday... UPDATE: Those looking for a second track, along with a slightly different version of the above track (with a cleaner opening and a fade at the end) can check out this page. I suspect that they may be the two tracks that were released on a PC Gamer cover disc. Once again the Internet connects us to information from sub-niches we never knew existed with Make Mine a 007, examining and tallying the drinking habits of James Bond. This is for the folks at lunch yesterday (myself included) who couldn't remember the exact origins of Labor Day. |
