"Holy hell! I've been desperately looking for exactly that- an 8' diameter fiberglass sphere! And he's not being sarcastic, folks. (Link to Obtainium.net found via MeFi) Eat it, stupid crossposter! The only thing that rocks more than the 'Tron is TMOL. And vice versa, of course. Tuesday, August 06, 2002
Went on a research trip to Old World Wisconsin today, a pretty cool place (see new picture to the right for a single sample of the more than 200 pictures I took.) But the day got even cooler when on the way back we stopped at a cool old abandoned building and took some pictures. Here's all that's visible from the road:
I can't tell if the building burned, collapsed, or was abandonded mid-meal. Here's the interior--note the lunch counter to the left, in front of the fridge and stove:
Wandering through the weeds and brush you can find a number of small outbuildings that I think were rental cabins--all in much the same state as the main building:
Man, every time my digital camera allows me to document cool stuff like this, I love it more and more. One of the best purchases I made this year. I hope that everyone takes advantage of any chance they have to follow their curiosity--there's lots of neat stuff like this waiting to be discovered... Monday, August 05, 2002
Thanks to Karla for what might be the best picture taken of me in years:
My own pictures and tales from Circus World will have to wait until I am not so freaking busy. This may entail waiting until next week, after GenCon (by which point poor Circus World will likely get lost in the flood of let-me-tell-you-about-the-geeks; alas.) If I carried a purse--or even a manbag--rather than the requisite geek chic backpack, I might consider a carrying container made from record sleeves. Ah, the tangled webs I follow through the blogosphere: A post on Making Light referred to Pigs and Fishes' response to Meryl Yourish's "dating superheroes" post. The meme has propagated*--even to Instapundit, of all places. Fun reading (especially the inevitable comments and followups) for comic obsessives, but the real bonus was finding that the text of Larry Niven's "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" is online--it's come up several times in conversation in the last week** and now those of you who had no idea what I was going on about can check it out for yourselves. * Yes, even to here, now. ** Yes, several times. |
