See, here's why I read the Conversatron: if I didn't I'd miss out on important news about free Slurpees! (Although despite their trademark and fancy lawyers, I'd be willing to bet someone out there is willing to step up to the plate and fight 7-Eleven for dominance over the phrase "dashboard dining".) The Madison Museum of Bathroom Tissue (thanks to Liana for the link); I remember it well. Near the intersection of Johnson and Hamilton in downtown Madison, above a convienience store, was an apartment stuffed with rolls of toilet paper from around the world. I saw their sign several times in passing before I finally caught them open--and that was only because my penchant for late night walks intersected with their strange hours ("Tuesdays and Thursdays, from bar time to 4 AM" if I remember the hand-written sign properly.) I visited a few times after that with various friends in tow, and it was always a weird but cool experience. I remain both a) shocked that it never burned down with the collision of so much paper and so many drunk people partaking of portable combustibles, and b) unsurprised that it finally went the way of the dodo--I always knew that eventually the proprietors would sober up and realize that they had collected several thousand rolls of toilet paper and let hundreds of people wander through their apartment looking at them. Ah, college. He's not insane. But apparently he does get letters from MC Frontalot (check the bottom of the page). Speaking of geek rap, apparently MC Hawking will have a track about GTA3 on the next PC Gamer demo disc. Usually the race around the office is to see who can throw the disc into the trash first, but I'll have to be sure to snag that one. Wednesday, July 10, 2002
Normally the crap to content ratio on AICN is pretty high, but the story of the Secret Lab is worth reading; it's a story I see repeated far too many times in far too many industries... I don't remember the last time I read an article about an upcoming comic and been as excited as I am about Orbiter. And the tone of awe pervading the first half of the article regarding Colleen Doran's attentition to detail? That's the attitude behind quality work, folks. Stop being so amazed and call out the lazy asses who don't do the research it takes to do the job right. (Don't miss checking out the terrific previews of Doran's art for the book. Right Click -> Save.) It's been a couple weeks since I posted some of my digital pics in handy montage form. But wait no more: not one, but two for your perusal. Click on each of the thumbnails for a slightly larger version; due to webspace limitations, if you want to see a larger or clearer version of a particular picture, you'll have to email me. ![]() Saw this while driving around up north:
That's right: a Meat Raffle. What's scary is that not only can the Web tell you what a meat raffle actually is, it also provides a Meat Raffle Probability Calculator. I am now afraid. Tuesday, July 09, 2002
I don't know whether you'd want to appear in this picture or not. Normally I wouldn't post a link to a picture of naked folks, but I figure the sheer number in this picture fills my quota until 2007. Enjoy. So let's say they're writing a story about you for the newspaper. There are a couple lines you'd probably rather didn't go into that article: "He played scores of characters, many of them forgettable." "The following day, hotel staffers reportedly found him unconscious in his room next to an empty minibar." Monday, July 08, 2002
I may get to go to GDC, my dad gets to go to AUVSI. San Jose; Disney World*. Who gets the better venue for their conference? (Yeah, I have some of the same reservations many of you do about Disney, I'm sure. But damn it, the parks are fun.) *In looking for a link for "Disney World", I found (on a slow-loading site--be prepared) some interesting links of Disney radio frequencies, Disney patents (who knew that until June 1, 1999 they had the patent for "video games with voice dialogue"?), the Bedtime Stories channel, the secrets of the Haunted Mansion, a picture of the Matterhorn's** secret basketball court, and instructions on how to build your own laminar flow fountain. ** Yeah, I know the Matterhorn is at Disneyland, but I came across it in the Disney World search, okay? So I'm realizing that when I last spoke to a good friend about a year ago, that may be the last time I ever speak to them. Not to any fault of mine, sofar as I know, but they've been oddly silent after enough attempts at communication that I'm wondering what happened. Very strange. |
