Words for the wise from the mouth of a fool.

One link I forgot to pass along yesterday was that for NASA TV, where their upgraded servers will hopefully actually allow you to watch today's launch of Discovery in real time. SpaceflightNow is also a good information source.

Ad astra per aspera, friends.

Comments:
Unless it gets scrubbed due to a malfunction. I tell ya, for rocket scientists it seems those shuttle guys ain't no brain surgeons!

Or it could be, you know, a complex process and a situation where NASA is critically sensitive to safety issues.

But I do get the joke.

I WAS only kidding. I'm a huge fan of the space program (OK, not as big a fan as YOU, but who is?).

I was disappointed that the launch didn't go off after so many months delay to start with AND with so many people looking on ready to cut the budget strings. A lengthy delay at the last minute just doesn't look good for the program.

And all the recent hoopla about them not being able to pinpoint the problem looks bad too. (I understand this thing is complex, but maybe not broadcasting that you don't know what's going on might be good!)

It appears to be a recurring problem, and it's not clear if it is a consequence of the design changes they've made to make it less likely that crap will fall off of the launch vehicle and hit the tiles.

It reinforces my belief that a manned space program is more about ego than science. For the money, there are lots (and lots!) of unmanned programs that would be much better served.
