Poking around the web for the current whereabouts of Harry "the Hat" Anderson (turns out he and his wife are operating a particularly cool-sounding store called Sideshow in New Orleans), I stumbled across a mention of "chapeaugraphy"--where performers use a partocularly versatile hat as their only prop to become a variety of characters. A bit of Googling and I found that you can watch a movie of a chapeaugraphy act* on the website of magician Daniel Adrian, read a history of chapeaugraphy, or even order your own Chap-O (although adding your own logo seems to break the act's sense of wonder just a bit.)* My apologies to Adrian for linking directly to media on his site; be sure to follow the other link and check out the rest of his site as well.
