Continuing process engineering day here on OD, the history of the coat hanger (via Incoming Signals).
A quick Google search turns up an amazing variety of things people are creating using wire coat hangers: physics demonstrations, backpack stoves, balance scales, masks, headphones, air flow diagnostic tools, darkroom dodge and burn tools, tennis rackets, solar stoves, "super whirligigs", drill probes, the amazingly cool corona motor (if you already have a Tesla coil), hot air balloons, recreations of Edison recorders, foxhole radios, electrostatic precipitators, eel rigging needles, invisible dogs, and of course, television antennas.
