I will let nothing prevent Ober Dicta from becoming the premiere web destination for fannish blatherings about The Daily Blab by Ron Barrett. After years of searching, the copy I found online last week arrived this morning, and I immediately sat down to read it. ![]() I admit to some trepidation--would the book live up to my memories of childhood enjoyment?--but it was all I remembered, without fail. Though I had forgotten many of the stories, all of them were immediately familiar, like long-lost good friends. Every page put a goofy smile on my face, and more than a bunch made me laugh out loud. J.P. correctly accused me of buying back my childhood, but this is one of the books that helped shape my sense of humor and I'm ecstatic to have it back on my shelves after a long absence. The last thing I want to do is steal the food out of Ron Barrett's mouth; that'd be disgusting, for one thing. But I can't help but share two stories to give you a taste. Enjoy (and click on the thumbnails for larger versions.) ...![]()
