Words for the wise from the mouth of a fool.

Cafe Press passed along an email today saying that they're updating their "Member Agreement" EULA. Since I was bored for a few minutes, I actually read the whole message. I found the following to be the interesting bit:

If your account generates less than $25 in commissions for any 180 day period, we reserved the right to close your account. We
will notify you at least 30 days before closing your account, and if you generate a sale, we will reactivate it for another 180 days.

This seems to be an interesting step away from their initial stance of "anyone can set up a store and we will sell products at your convenience" to "set up a store that's successful enough to meet our minimum, or we shut you down." I guess I can see where they're coming from, but it seems to be a pretty fundamental change to me. I hope the money they save on server space (and couldn't they make some of that back by requiring images to be hosted by the enduser?) makes up for the business they stand to lose.

(It also has an interesting subeffect of potentially forcing people to raise their commisions so they meet the minimum, rather than--as many people do now--just selling custom shirts at the CP minimum costs.)

All that said, go buy stuff in my store. It may be gone in 180 days.
