Those crazy kids on Metafilter...

So they link to a story about the GAO's investigation into the behavior of Clinton staffers as they turned over the White House to the Bush administration. I'm reading it and get to this paragraph:

According to the Executive Office of the President and the General Services Administration, at least $9,324 was spent for repair and replacement of items and cleanup. That included $4,850 for 62 keyboards, $2,040 for 26 cellular telephones, $1,150 for professional cleaning, $729 for two cameras, $221 for 15 television remote controls and $150 for repairing the arms of two chairs and the leg of a sofa.

Bringing up my handy Windows calculator shows that's $151.56 each the keyboards alone. What the?

But the MeFites did me one better, remembering and then finding this press release, as well as a PDF of the report itself (and its comments and counter-comments--interesting reading themselves.) Is there any wonder that I get most of my news from the Net these days? It comes with much better follow-up.

Still, what happened to either a) the keyboards donated by Office Max, or b) the $4,850?
